Britney’s set design will be based on the mysterious theory of the Onyx stone. The Onyx Hotel is a unique, mysterious hotel powered by an onyx stone. Each guest who enters this hotel shines their own light into the onyx, and in return, makes their fantasies come to life. It’s a vibrant, whimsical place where wondrous dreams are realized, and the darkest of secrets are revealed. Britney expressed, “I’m especially looking forward to bringing my tour to new markets and performing in front of fans that may not have had the opportunity to see any of my previous tours.” For her fans, the Onyx Hotel Tour will be an incredible experience not to be missed. Tickets for Britney Spears – Onyx Hotel Tour 2004 – are on sale in select markets. Check local listings for on sales, dates and times. Britney is pleased to announce Kelis as a special guest on her tour. “’Milkshake ’ is one of my favorite new songs, and I am so excited that Kelis, who is so talented, has agreed to open the Onyx Hotel Tour for me.” Britney's Tour Demands The Times of India reported that ahead of her UK tour, Britney Spears has kicked up a stink by demanding an odourless carpet in her dressing room at each gig. She insists any chemical smells like those new carpets give off could harm her voice and organisers were apparently told to create `an apartment feel' complete with sofas, TV and coffee table, reports The Sun. Britney, who kicks off her seven-date tour on April 27, issued the demand, known as a rider. An aide quoted by the report said, "She wants to feel as comfortable as she can." More Demands TOXIC beauty Britney currently requests POP TARTS, edamame beans, sushi, tuna fish, cranberry juice and RED BULL wherever she performs. She says, "I need to change it up - I've had the same thing for 10 years now!" No Catwalk BritneySpears.Com, Official Site has informed that the stage setup for the Onyx Hotel Tour will not include a catwalk as was originally communicated. Message From Tour Director The official Britney FanClub: Hey guys, my name is Kevin Tancharoen, and I am the Director of Britney's "The Onyx Hotel Tour". I just wanted to fill you in on what's been going on. We are in the middle of creative meetings for the show, and dance rehearsals start in a few days. The stage design is complete, and costumes are in the works. It's been a long creative process thus far, and everyday we're discovering new ways to take Britney's shows to the next level. "The Onyx Hotel" will be very artistically driven, and we hope to achieve more of an overall "theatrical" performance... Tour on TV Multi-platinum superstar Britney Spears will turn up the heat on SHOWTIME Sunday, March 28th with a live, full-length concert at *9 PM ET/PT. The SHOWTIME concert event will take place at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, just one of the stops on Britney's THE ONYX HOTEL TOUR 2004, which covers over 25 cities in the United States and Canada. Known for her elaborate productions, whether it's flying a barge, an over-sized music box, a water curtain or suspension from the arena ceiling, Spears and her high-octane team never cease to amaze. The television production will be nothing short of extravagant, with award-winning directors and producers on board and multiple cameras shooting the action in HDTV. "We are committed to bringing the best special event programming to our subscribers. Collaborating with Britney on this unique event, and presenting her spectacular concert to a broad audience is an incredible opportunity for our network," said Bob Greenblatt, Showtime's President of Entertainment. "In The Zone," Britney's 4th Jive Records release, shows her flexing her notably strong and mature songwriting muscles. She co-wrote 8 of the project's 13 sterling new compositions, collaborating with such heavy hitters as Red Zone ("Me Against The Music," "The Hook Up"), The Matrix ("Shadow"), Moby ("Early Mornin'"), and Cathy Dennis ("Toxic," "Showdown"). Also contributing hit worthy material to the album is R. Kelly ("Outrageous") and Ying-Yang Twins on "(I Got That) Boom Boom." Britney Spears recently broke her own record by debuting #1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart with her 4th album In The Zone. Britney is the first female in Soundscan history to have four #1 albums in a row. The first single off the album, "Me Against The Music," is also the #1 video on MTV's TRL. The video is also on Much Music, VH-1 and Fuse. According to Soundscan, "In The Zone" has sold 609,364 units in the first week alone. Britney holds the #1 (1.319 million for Oops! … I Did It Again 5/09/00), #3 (745,744 for Britney (11/06/01) and #5 (current album) slots for debuts on the Billboard Album 200 chart for any female artist in the history of Soundscan. SHOWTIME secured first caliber talent Hamish Hamilton to direct the show. Hamilton has built a reputation as one of the finest young directors of live music entertainment. He recently mesmerized audiences with his direction of the elaborate MTV Europe Awards from Scotland. The combination of Britney and Hamish should make for an explosive night of television unlike anything she's done before. Tape delayed on the West Coast. After Britney Tour, Kelis Looking To Team Up With Lenny Kravitz MTV News reports Kelis might pair up with Lenny Kravitz on a summer tour after checking out of Britney Spears' Onyx Hotel Tour. "I don't know how this happened, to be honest with you," Kelis admitted with a laugh. "I just show up. But we've met. [Lenny's] cool." Kelis knows that being on the road with such headliners as Spears or Kravitz will limit her creative freedom onstage, but she acknowledges the trade-off in reaching a broader audience. "It's a huge tour," she said of the Spears trek. "I'm sort of there for fun and to hang out. I love what I do so it'll be fun." CCE Steers Spears Tour Toward New Audience Reuters/Billboard - On her previous two albums, Britney Spears hopped between G- and PG-13-rated pop. But her latest Jive release, "In the Zone," is such a leap into adult territory -- including an arguably R-rated masturbation song -- that Clear Channel Entertainment has had to market Spears' latest tour to new audiences. Steering away from families with kids and toward teens and young adults has slowed down the ticket-sales pace for Spears' upcoming spring Onyx Hotel tour, CCE senior VP of touring Bruce Kapp believes. "Britney needed to reinvent herself," Kapp says. "She couldn't stay where she was in terms of teeny bop and really young kids. The question, Are people going to accept that?" Spears sold out many of her arena and amphitheater shows for her 2000 and 2001-02 tour rounds, often in one day. Concerts West, now AEG Live, promoted her 2002 series, and CCE handled her 1999, 2000 and 2001 tours. Kapp expects most of the 25 shows taking place March 2-April 10 to sell out venues' 13,500-seat-average capacities. But that process has not been as quick as in the past. By the end of January, Spears' March 25 show at the Jacksonville (Fla.) Veterans Memorial Arena had sold 5,500 tickets. The Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., and the Pepsi Center in Denver had hit 7,000 in sales for their respective March 11 and March 15 concerts. In some quarters, however, tickets are moving quickly, in part because of Spears' tabloid tendencies, such as her quickie Las Vegas wedding/annulment. "She's gotten so much face time outside the music industry that people are intrigued by it and want to come out and see what she's doing," says Sean Saadeh, director of booking and marketing at the San Diego Sports Arena, which presents Spears March 2. Tickets for that show were almost sold out at press time. To market to the teen/young adult crowd, CCE has been sending localized, Flash-animated e-mails to about 2 million people in its database that fit that audience description. At present, CCE is bouncing ideas off local radio stations to create promotion campaigns as dates near in each market. "We're not looking at the Mickey Mouse Club fans anymore. Parents aren't buying," CCE director of tour marketing Tommy Ginoza says. "We're going after high-school- and college-aged women and men -- the kids who have now grown up." Ticket buying has been delayed as fans figure out where they stand with the racier Spears, many arena managers say. "My niece who saw Britney the first time along is no longer interested. is now after an entirely different demographic," says Steve Hyman, GM for the Mark of the Quad Cities in Moline, Ill., which hosts Spears March 18. In 2000, the Mark sold out its Spears tickets hours after they went on sale, he recalls. Right now, the ticket count for its upcoming 10,600-seat show is 6,200. Hyman also notes that Spears' current teenage/college-aged fan demographic is typically a last-second ticket purchaser. "There is no sense of urgency with this demo to buy tickets three months out for an event," Hyman says. "But look at the discretionary income. Some might be only able to set aside $10 each month ." Skye Sweetnam Hooks Up With Britney Spears After the smooching incident on last year's MTV Music Video Awards and the provocative "Me Against The Music" duet and video to follow, everyone knows that Britney Spears admires Madonna and is trying her hardest to be her clone. But could Spears soon have a protege of her own? Canada's very own Skye Sweetnam will join milkshake-queen Kelis as Spears' opening acts on the pop princess' upcoming North American tour. This is a pretty big deal for Sweetnam, who's from the small town of Bolton, Ontario. The 15-year-old will work on winning over Spears' fans as the spring tour brings the girls to 25 different North American cities beginning in San Diego, California on March 2. But Sweetnam has already been establishing herself on the pop music scene. Last year, her single "Billy S" appeared on the soundtrack for the Mandy Moore movie, How To Deal. Sweetnam had been making demos of her music since she was 12. When she hooked up with guitarist/bassist/keyboardist James Robertson, the pair began writing and recording in his parents' basement. Capitol Records was obviously impressed with the basement-recorded tracks; they signed Sweetnam based on these songs and even allowed most of them to be included on the album without any professional re- recording. The aptly titled Noise From The Basement isn't due out until after the tour is complete, but the exposure Sweetnam receives on the tour may send little girls running to stores on May 18 to purchase the album. Britney On The New Tour Cojo Interview, ET February 2004 - Work, work and more work is one way Britney is moving on. Her Onyx Hotel Tour starts on March 2nd and Cojo gets the scoop on why she named it after the mystical black stone. "It's in mines in India and people go to these stones to see them because they're so powerful," she says. "Supposedly they ward off evil ... whenever light is reflected on it the stone changes colors, and I thought it was symbolic to what I do." "I like 'Britney Is on Fire -- The Tour' or 'Don't Mess with Britney,'" Cojo says giving his two cents. Britney says she wants her fans to walk away from the show with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. "I would want them to say, 'That was just the most amazing experience that I just had of my life.' Kind of like the feeling you get watching a strong movie where you go through all these different emotions. There's moments where you want to cry and moments where you're so into it. It's very theatrical and very well thought out." On the Road with Britney Spears From Britney Official Fan Club: Well the Onyx Hotel is about to open and all of our employees are busy getting ready for our Grand Opening…..March 2nd in San Diego. Welcome to the Onyx Hotel Tour 2004. It is about 4 weeks away from opening night and our staff is coming in from around the USA to rehearse for the big tour. Many of our regular fans know how much fun a Britney Spears show is and you will not be disappointed. I don’t want to give away any surprises but I will just say our last show, Dream within Dream, in my opinion, was more Las Vegas-style. This time around it will be more NY Theatre-style. As Britney’s Tour Manager for the past 4 years, it has been my responsibility to make sure the proper planning is done before the tour, so when we get to a city near you, everything will be in place. One of my responsibilities during rehearsal is to keep and maintain a working rehearsal schedule for Britney and our performers. We have Britney and our dancers working in one room and our band rehearsing in another. As we all learn our parts, we will all come together in one big space and put it ALL together. At the same time, our wardrobe department in busy fitting all our performers for costumes for the show. We have at least 7 to 8 people that will be working on costumes full time during the rehearsal period. I am busy booking hotels across the country in conjunction with our travel agent to make sure when we arrive, our accommodations are in place. I speak with the bus company we use to ensure the buses we travel on, are comfortable and in good working order. I work with the record company and coordinate all of the press interviews and photographers that Britney will encounter along the way. Britney is very excited to bring you this new show to support the new album, In the Zone, and we are all excited to be a part of it. Richard Channer Tour Manager More Info On The Onyx Hotel UK Tour BBC News just reported Britney will be bringing a special guest on stage with her; that she will remake two songs including one of Madonna; plus that some of her outfits will match her previous video's ones that she'll wear while performing infront of large screens on the lounge part of the hotel! Britney to Perform in Bangkok American pop princess Britney Spears will this year perform her first concerts in Thailand to showcase songs from her latest album "In The Zone", a concert promoter said yesterday. Boonperm Intanapasat, general manager of Matching Entertainment Ltd, which brought Mariah Carey to Bangkok, said the Spears deal was finalised this week. "We contacted her through the same agency that handled Mariah," he said. The agency decided to bring in Spears because it was satisfied with the security team provided for Carey, Boonperm said. "The Thai security team and police have impressed them." While the date has not yet been set, Spears is likely to perform two concerts at The Impact Arena. "Spears wanted to perform in a big outdoor stadium, but that's unlikely since she'll be here in the rainy season." Boonperm declined to reveal the concert fee, but said it would be double the price of the Carey concert. He said Spears would also have a bigger entourage. She will bring 80 crew and 10 management personnel, while Carey brought 36 crew and 10 management. Spears will come to Thailand as part of her world tour, Boonperm said. Britney to play outdoor Dublin gig Britney Spears has added an outdoor concert at the Royal Dublin Showgrounds to her upcoming tour. The June 6 gig was added to her Onyx Hotel tour after concerts at Dublin's The Point arena on June 2 and 3 sold out in less than an hour. Tickets for the Dublin RDS concert go on sale on Thursday, February 19. Spears also plays Belfast's Odyssey Arena on June 1 on the European leg of the tour which kicks-off at London's Wembley Arena on April 27. It also includes concerts at Glasgow's SECC, April 29 and 30; Manchester Evening News Arena, May 1; Wembley Arena, May 3 and 4; and Birmingham NIC, May 5. Access Hollywood Interview Britney Spears is revved up and ready to let the road trip begin as she embarks on a 50-city worldwide tour, titled "The Onyx Hotel Tour." Britney sat down for an interview with Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell, where she discussed an array of topics including her special travel companion and how the Super Bowl controversy will affect her show. Nancy: So, it's been two years since you've done a tour? Britney: Yes. Nancy: How is this one going to be different? Or the same? Britney: It's going to be completely different. I have a lot of the old stuff that I'm doing, but I'm doing remixes of everything. And the costumes are really cool, crazy, very elaborate and different... I think it's going to be a little more intimate than most of the other shows that I've done. Nancy: Are you looking forward to it or are you going like, 'Oh my gosh, there goes my life?' Britney: No. Right now, this is kind of the grueling process because I'm in rehearsals everyday. But I'm very excited about the first couple of shows because I haven't been on stage in such a long time, so I'm ready. Nancy: What are you doing to train? Do you have to workout more? Britney: Just rehearsals everyday, just rehearsing constantly and that's it. Nancy: Your show is so physical. Do you have to exercise more in preparing? Britney: It's really weird. You would think dancing so much that you wouldn't want to workout more. But it's weird because I find myself dancing all day long, but I want to work out more. It's really kind of strange, but I think it inspires it. Nancy: What do you think is the biggest fear? When you go on stage, maybe not even the first time, but throughout the whole tour when you get ready to enter, what is your biggest fear? Britney: Honestly, I'm a perfectionist. When I go on stage I want to know that everything is going to be right. My biggest fear is probably just the sound. Something technical may go wrong or something like that, which would be really, really bad... That's my biggest fear. Nancy: Now I understand you're actually bringing something special on this tour. Britney: Yes. Well, I don't want to say. Nancy: Come on tell us who it is. Britney: OK, Kelis is coming and I have Robin Thicke -- he's going to be coming with me overseas. Nancy: But I thought your little pooch was coming with you. Britney: Oh my dog, Mickey! Yes, yes, he's going to be coming. I'm excited. I haven't seen her in awhile. Nancy: You know in light of the current climate as far as the censorship that has been put in place -- the 5-second delays because of the whole controversy with the Super Bowl -- is there anything that has changed about your show? Will that affect your show in any way? Britney: No... You know some of my songs are a little bit more controversial than most. It's a little bit more sexual, but it's not to that point. It's not that racy or anything like that. But I am pushing some buttons a little bit. Nancy: How do you prepare mentally for a tour? I mean a tour can be physically demanding but mentally too. Britney: Yeah, it takes a lot of focus, definitely. Nancy: What do you do mentally or spiritually to prepare? Britney: A lot of work and just a lot of preparation. A lot of rehearsals and before the show usually I just kind of spend like a couple minutes by myself and just say a prayer and just leave it in God's hands. That's what I do. Nancy: What do you have in your dressing room to help you prepare for going out there? Britney: Oh gosh. I have Pop Tarts, edamame beans, sushi, tuna fish, my cranberry juice, Red Bulls -- all that good stuff. I need to change it up. I've had the same thing for like 10 years now.
